Beasts of No Nation Movie Review

Beasts of No Nation Movie Review

“Beasts of No Nation” is an American war-drama film. In that film, the Producer drew a fictional war on the African continent. Agu, a child is the main character in that film. He lives in a buffer zone with his family of the country which engaged in a civil war. War always brought a huge number of violations of rights. Often it violates the rights of children and women in a cruel nature. Human rights are violated gravely in wartime.

In that film, the area where Agu resides is suddenly diverted into a battlefield. The government Army takes place and without any trial kills many people who are residents in that village including Agu’s father, brother, and grandfather. Fortunately, Agu’s father makes arrangements for his wife and two children to safe passage to flee from that battlefield.

Though Agu survives from the government army he is caught by a rebel militant group called ‘NDF’. They turned Agu as a solder. From that time Agu as a rebel soldier was doing war crimes. In the last scene, Agu and other “NDF’ soldiers surrender to the UN army to return to a simple life as they were before the war started.

While scrutinizing this movie, it shows the grave violation of some human rights. When the government army took over the buffer zone, they killed innocent people without proper inquiry and proper trial. In that time, Agu lost his father and brother. The right to protection of the law, the right to life and personal liberty, right to fair trial are violated by the government army.

When Agu flees away from the buffer zone and is caught by the ‘NDF’, a rebel force, they abuse Agu and make him a soldier. Inasmuch, Agu is a child and that’s why it is a clear violation of children's rights which amounts to violation of human rights. The Convention on the Rights of the Child deals with the issue of child abuse. According to this convention, child abuse is clearly a violation of human rights.

During the war women's rights were mostly violated. They are killed, raped and abducted. This movie also drags this. While ‘NDF is fighting for taking over a village, some soldier was raped a woman and her little daughter. This is heinous and against humanitarian law as well as against the human rights law as it violates the right of woman and children. Agu also raped by his commandant.

The most important thing is that, oppression on child creates many problems and it takes away the childhood from that child. It needs a long time to fix. War never brings prosperity and success. It only takes away the entire good thing and in return give all the evils.
