How to Cite an Authored Book Using OSCOLA, a Legal Citation Guide?

(1)   Cite the Authors name first, followed by a comma.

(2)   Title of the book in Italics.

(3)   Publication information follows the title within brackets.

(4)   Publication elements should always include the publisher and the year of publication, with a space but no punctuation between them.

(5)   The place of publication need not be given. If you are citing an edition other than the first edition.

(6)   Where a book has a title and subtitle not separated with punctuation, insert a colon.


Example:

a)      Mahmudul Islam, Constitutional Law of Bangladesh (3rd Edition, Mullick Brothers 2012) 488

b)    Dr. A. S. M. Tariq Iqbal, Business Law in Bangladesh: Theory & Practice (1st Edition, Sufi Prokashoni, Dhaka 2019) 377

(7)  If a book consists of more than one volumes. The volume number must be mentioned with the book title separated by a comma.

(8)   Pinpoint to paragraphs rather than pages if the paragraphs are numbered.

Example:

a)      Faikuzzaman Chowdhury, A book on the Day to Day Procedure of the Land Administration, Vol II (2nd Edition 2003) 1461

b)      Christian von Bar, The Common European Law of Torts, vol 2 (CH Beck 2000) para 76
